I opened this shop because braiding is not something I chose — it chose me. I started at age ten in Senegal, watching my older sister, picking up the hair she set aside, practicing until my fingers knew exactly what to do. My father saw how deeply it had taken hold of me and made a decision that changed my life: he sent me to the United States to pursue it fully. When I arrived in San Antonio, there was no African hair braiding salon here. So I opened one. That was the beginning of Heidi Jojo.

More than five years later, we are still here — and still growing. I have braided through workforce shortages, a global pandemic, difficult seasons, and moments when I almost walked away. I stayed

because I am not afraid of hard. I stayed because my mother told me to keep going. I stayed because I know what I am building, and I know it is worth building. Every upgrade you see in this shop — every new chair, every remodel, every new style we added to the menu — is proof that I listened and I kept going. What makes this shop different is not just the braiding, though I will put my work up against anyone's. It is the environment we have created. When you walk through that door, you are going to feel it: the calm, the music, the water and snacks we have ready for you, the fact that we are genuinely glad you are here. Some of our clients have sat in this chair through some of the hardest seasons of their lives — loss, grief, transition — and they come back because this space holds them. That is not something we advertise. It is something we have earned. We serve women of color — and anyone who wants their hair done right, by hands that have been doing this for more than thirty years, by a shop that has never stopped raising its own standard. We do not rush. We do not cut corners. We do not apologize for being thorough or for asking you to read our policies before you book. We have built something real here. Come see it for yourself
